What is the ethical code of conduct?
An ethical code of conduct is a guide to principles created to assist practitioners in performing business in the right way. A code of ethics can reinforce the values stated in the mission and vision of the company.
A code of conduct is a set of values, rules, standards, and principles outlining what employers expect from staff within an organization.
A code of conduct clearly outlines expected standards of behaviour. It is a clear set of unambiguous expectations. The code of conduct specifies actions in the workplace, whereas a code of ethics is a general guide to decisions about those actions.
This means principles of fairness, good faith and respect consistent with laws, regulations and University policies govern our conduct with others both inside and outside the community. Each situation needs to be examined in accordance with the Standards of Ethical Conduct.
7 Ethical Principles
Fairness of commercial practices. Data confidentiality. Professional behavior. Professional skills and added value.
A company code of conduct is a set of rules which is commonly written for employees of a company, which protects the business and informs the employees of the company's expectations. It is appropriate for even the smallest of companies to create a document containing important information on expectations for employees.
Values: At the heart of a code of conduct are the core values and principles that define the organization's ethos. These values are the foundation upon which every decision and action is based. Unequivocal, they provide employees with a moral compass, guiding their daily interactions and choices.
What are ethics? Derived from the Greek word “ethos”, which means “way of living”, ethics is a branch of philosophy that is concerned with human conduct, more specifically the behaviour of individuals in society.
Workplace Values & Ethics
Cacciottolo adds, “Some essential ethics to consider include integrity, discipline, honesty, respect, and accountability. It's also helpful to consider how to implement choices that reflect chosen ethics. Recognizing and rewarding behavior which upholds company values is crucial.
Defining Ethical Behavior in the Workplace
Ethics in the workplace is defined as the moral code that guides the behavior of employees with respect to what is right and wrong in regard to conduct and decision making.
Why is a code of conduct important?
Why is a Code of Conduct important? A code of conduct sets out clearly the leadership's expectations for behaviour across the business in the areas of integrity, objectivity, confidentiality, professional behaviour and professional competence. It helps to ensure employees are comfortable in their working environment.
Whenever I think about interacting with people, I think about the Golden Rule, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Many of us operate with this rule in mind, but how do we know what we would like done unto us is what others want done unto them.
It is divided into three sections, and is underpinned by the five fundamental principles of Integrity, Objectivity, Professional competence and due care, Confidentiality, and Professional behaviour.
Employees are offered a safe and healthy workplace and the company will not tolerate any form of harassment. Suppliers will be chosen on the basis of factors such as price, quality, delivery, service, and integrity. The company's choice of suppliers will be made objectively.
The Rules of Conduct are based on ethical principles of honesty, integrity, competence, service, respect, and responsibility.
- Make your code of conduct comprehensive and visible. ...
- Craft a statement of values in your code of conduct. ...
- Specify who is covered. ...
- Specify a process for reporting complaints. ...
- Cover what happens outside the workplace. ...
- Write and communicate a clear anti-harassment policy.
The main types of codes of ethics include a compliance-based code of ethics, a value-based code of ethics, and a code of ethics among professionals.
The Code is framed around four core values – respect, trust, partnership and integrity – and eight primary principles.
A lot of people think of them as being the same thing. While they're closely related concepts, morals refer mainly to guiding principles, and ethics refer to specific rules and actions, or behaviors.
the autonomy, community, and morality foundations are significant, gener- ate a rich set of reasons to act, and have an important range of applications to legal ethics.
What are examples of moral values?
Examples of moral values include honesty, empathy, respect, compassion, and integrity. These values guide individuals in their decision-making processes, helping them to discern right from wrong, treat others with kindness, and uphold ethical principles in their actions.
Asking for recognition for someone else's job, calling in sick to go to the hill station, sabotaging someone else's work, and, in sales, falsifying the product or service to fulfill the target are all examples of unethical behavior in the workplace.
Unethical: “A student used plagiarism on their final written assignment to get a higher grade” This is unethical because it goes against social norms and the majority of the people would find this act unacceptable.
Unethical behavior is when a person, a professional, or an industry does anything that is considered unacceptable because they are against the social norms. Individuals, businesses, professions, and politicians may all engage in unethical behavior.
pertaining to or dealing with morals or the principles of morality; pertaining to right and wrong in conduct. being in accordance with the rules or standards for right conduct or practice, especially the standards of a profession: It was not considered ethical for physicians to advertise.
